We do everything we can as parents to keep our kids safe. But accidents can still happen, and that’s what happened to 13-year-old Gabbie Fedro. She got terrible burns on her neck after using her phone while it was charging.
Jackie Fedro, Gabbie’s mom, gave her a new LG d500 phone for Christmas in 2016. They got the phone so they could keep in touch more readily, because Gabby was busy with her practice. But what happened next was a nightmare that none of them could have seen coming.
The Crash
Gabbie was in her room one day using her phone when she suddenly yelled in pain. She raced down the steps, holding her neck and screaming. Her mom didn’t get it for five minutes. Gabbie got an electric shock from the charging phone. It went through the metal necklace she was wearing and burned her neck second-degree.
The Aftermath
Gabbie got terrible burns and a lasting scar around her neck from the event. Jackie’s mom is now telling other parents about cell phone dangers that aren’t well understood. “Parents need to know how bad phones can be for kids these days,” she said.
Parents should be careful and mindful of the risks that come with using cell phones, especially when they are charging, because of this scary event. The story shows how important it is to be careful and watchful to keep our kids safe. ¹.
