My sister often dumps her 4 y.o. son on me with lame excuses. Yes-sterday, she showed up unannounced, claiming she had an urgent dentist appointment. I agreed to watch him-no big deal. I took him to the mall for ice cream and saw my sister with her friends.

So I paid a waiter to take my nephew to the play area while I quietly followed her to the café terrace.

That’s when I heard her.
Laughing.
Bragging.

She told her friends,

“Honestly, it’s amazing. I don’t spend a cent, and I get a free babysitter anytime I want. Sometimes I even grab a few things from her place when I leave. It’s so convenient.”

My heart dropped.
I froze.
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

All this time, I thought I was helping her because she was overwhelmed—a young mom, stressed, exhausted. But no. I was just free labor to her. A tool.

Something inside me snapped.

I walked straight to their table. The look on her face when she saw me was priceless—pure panic mixed with guilt.

“Oh! Uh… what are you doing here?” she stammered.

I smiled calmly, the kind of smile that warns a storm is coming.
“Funny,” I said. “I wanted to ask you the same thing. Especially since your ‘urgent dentist appointment’ seems to involve iced coffee and gossip.”

Her friends grew quiet. She went pale.

Before she could speak, I continued,
“And don’t worry—your ‘free babysitter’ has officially retired. Starting today.”

She tried to grab my arm, whispering harshly,

“Stop embarrassing me!”But I shrugged her off.

“I’m not embarrassing you,” I said. “You did that yourself.”

Then I picked up my nephew, who was happily clutching a balloon from the play area.
